Fusion price increase and fiber expansion

While I understand the price increase I have two problems with the message:

1. Having the message be part of the bill feels very "cable company-y" to me. I generally skim my bill to make sure the charge is correct and could easily have missed this. I feel it should've been communicated clearly under separate cover

• The range of the increase from $10.00 to $10.05 seems really weird

I believe Dane already admitted that they handled the " communication " part poorly and will improve on that in his previous post somewhere on this thread ...

Uhm that was after the notes were sent out which by the way Sonic did include on the bottom of your bill ( just cause you don't read your bill is of no fault of sonic ) . And Dane acknowledged that they could have been communicated " better " so I am not sure what you mean by the statement that it reinforces your point ... as a matter of fact it makes your point invalid . Could / Should Sonic make it more clear that there will be price increase - sure they could / should . Should you read your bill and check for any discrepancies yes you should ... so yeah ....

Kind of curious how long have you been with sonic? What service/speeds are you on and getting?

I have been with sonic between the two accounts ( since I moved from my old place to a new one ) for almost 7 years now . My old account I have given to my parents since they moved to the place I used to live in . I started with ATT dsl and when they implemented data caps I was out , switched to Sonic DSL and was getting around 3.5 mbps back then ... then switched to FTTN when that become available 55 down / 10 up or so if memory serves me well , and now I am on fiber with 950-970 down and 100-110 up .

Gotcha, no wonder you love sonic so much. My girlfriend is in the sunset and I keep telling her to go Sonic Fiber, as it is offered there and dirt cheap.

I've been paying $80 now $90 for 15 down / 2 up, which might be good for a 1 person household, but isn't the case as I have a household of 5.

I've stuck out Sonic as long as I could (6+years) as the sonic techs and support crew were some of the friendlies and knowledgeable ones out there. The price hike was just the straw that broke the camel's back. I look forward to working with Sonic in the future.

Yeah I feel you man I am firm believer that the price increase should affect only people who are within certain tier of speed ( for example anybody with FTTN 50 mbps or with Fiber 1 gig or anybody who falls into 50 mbps + speed like some VDSL people ) and for end users who are below let's say 50 ( or 25 ) no price increase at all ... I also see where Dane is coming from and trying to keep SONIC as privately owned without going into stocks and such ... it's a tough decision and I totally understand why some people especially those who A) will not see fiber in any near future or B) who are lower end of speed VS price will leave for other alternatives and tbh can't really blame them for that ... For me it worked out well to stick with SONIC , said that I am going to support sonic as much as I can and hope that in the future the rest of the end users can enjoy fiber connection

This is a sound suggestion, and I hope the decision makers at Sonic are paying attention.

Users who enjoy speeds an order of magnitude or more higher than the rest, but pay in the same ballpark, have it really good. Can't these lucky ones be charged more, so everybody else doesn't have to absorb the flat $10 price hike?

You know, some, probably most, of us don't have gigabit fiber from Sonic to look forward to.

I'm in San Jose. Supposedly, Sonic won't build fiber in the (entire?) South Bay because Google and AT&T are. Is it because of the competition? Or do Google and AT&T have a monopoly? The South Bay should be "low-hanging fruit" for most intents and purposes...

Yeah, two middle fingers up for how Sonic has handled the price increase nonsense.

I just called to return the (defective) modem rather than pay $10/mo to debug Sonic's hardware. The rep:

- indicated my account was past due (it's not) and that I had a long expired card on file (I don't)
- indicated he couldn't find invoices newer than two years
- indicated the account didn't appear to show anything regarding FTTH on it
- indicated he didn't realize there were two lines of service (despite me mentioning this a few times)
- indicated that I'd lose the $10/mo discount (BTW your trucks and website still say $40/mo) if I returned the modem
- indicated that I wouldn't qualify for the $40/mo anyhow because I was an existing customer

That's almost worth eating the $120 ETF (hey that's what this useless modem would cost!) and switching to Comcast. It's not like I'm getting anything unique with Sonic at this point (no static IP, no IPv6). Quite a change from ten years ago when I had to do Sonic's work for them and hassle AT&T endlessly so I could get what's now called legacy DSL from Sonic at this address.

Loyalty is a two way street, guys.
