If you're going to change functionality IT HELPS TO HAVE AN EXPLANATION *SOMEWHERE* about what all the new stuff means. While it might be obvious to YOU, it was not obvious to me, the user. What is this new tool feature, and how can I get the capability that I most valued back?
I hope you'll find
https://wiki.sonic.net/wiki/Webmail#Selecting_Messages helpful. Also, the Squirrelmail interface is still available at
https://legacy-webmail.sonic.net/ if you prefer.

Also, I do not care for the "new" format. I suppose that I could get used to it, but it would have been nice to have some sort of warning other than the login box being different.
We announced the upcoming changes to the webmail interface several months ago both through this forum and through the login interface for our previous interfaces. A vigorous discussion of its merits and flaws was held right here for all to see. You'll find 40 pages of such discussion in this very thread.

You need to provide information and instructions about how to use the newly done Webmail, and any other functions that have been changed. In other words, you need to do some technical writing for your users. Just because the development team thinks the new product is "neat and spiffy," does not necessarily mean that the user will see it the same way. Especially when the change is unexpected for them.
I agree that documentation is important, though I think you're mischaracterizing how this was rolled out. What we have up reflects the feedback we received internally from our own staff and from the public (both through the forums and individual contact with our support department).
