Anyway another point is you are all hanged up on " oh my god this is to subsidize fiber build out and I won;t have fiber anytime soon so I am going to quit " what if Dane just came here and told you that this is to cover the cost of new infrastructure and modernize the equipment they already have to deliver more reliable service ( I haven't said faster just more reliable ) or if Dane came here and told you that due to increase in X , Y and Z ( cost of maintaining the business ) they have to increase the fees as well ? would that be more palatable ? You do realize that sonic hasn't really increase their prices in like ages and sure Dane chose fiber build out to be the reason for increase but he could as well choose 1000000 other reasons for the increase which is imho justified especially since there was no increase in prices in ages and sonic as a company has grown significantly ( cost of business must have gone up )

I'm so used to Comcast and ATT upping my price every X months, I don't care that Sonic did it once; as long as they don't start upping it every year. I'm also happy to know that the money is going into better infrastructure and support and not padding pockets of people higher up in the company.

Price changes happen, whether you like them or not. Atleast Sonic is doing them for a good reason.

you're entitled to your opinion. No need to defend Dane or sonic. And the "what if" arguments are lame. I get what they are doing. I don't agree with it. So my only choices are to stick to Sonic or switch providers.

What if arguments are only lame if the " what if " part makes no sense , I believe my argument was valid and had valid merits if you don't like " what if " in that sentence just change it to a new proposed business model where price increase is not because of build out but because of increase of costs of doing business .... there I fixed it for you so it's not " lame " anymore

Looks like I am out of here guys. $10 price increase on an out of date technology... I cannot justify paying $90 for ~18mbps down ~2mbps up...

I've been biding my time, but once my directv contract comes up in a couple weeks, looks like I will be forced to go with comcast.

This is coming from a loyal customer since Jan 2011 (pre-advertising times at the warriors oracle arena games...).

Price increase without notice. Sorry Sonic, will be looking for another provider.

I get the frustration. However, Sonic has traditionally been very quiet about expansion projects. Usually nothing is said until trucks are rolling & crews are on the ground. I'm not even sure how widely known 2 of their current projects are (looking at you Hamilton Field).

Yeah, it stinks that prices went up. My point is this: don't assume that you're aced out of fiber just because the publicized project is in SF. I'm thinking that if you're in Sacramento, or Santa Rosa, or parts of Novato, or lots of other places, you'll be seeing new network going in in the next 28-14 months.

I would also remind many users that much of the current infrastructure is resold AT&T. That means that if you want performance improvements, most of us have 3 choices:
1) Comcast (or whatever your local cable franchise is)
2) AT&T (and whatever fiber rollout they might do)
3) Sonic Fiber (when it comes to your urban/suburban neighborhood)

Point 1: You have to deal with Comcast's predatory pricing, and primary focus on cable TV services. Any internet service that may compete with cable TV will be throttled or limited.
Point 2: Copy & paste Point 1. Insert "AT&T" & "DirecTV". Also AT&T and Verizon are moving away from fiber. They are more interested in over-the-air tecnologies.
Point 3: Sonic does not have shareholders or venture capital. The only way they can invest in, and speed up, the deployment of fiber, is go to the rate payers. Since there hasn't been a rate increase since the advent of Fusion, I think it's fair.

Finally, AT&T (see point 2) is supposed to keep the copper network up & running. They are not very interested in it. We all (except Fiber customers) are going to continue to see deterioration in service until that network is replaced. (As an example, there was significant damage done to the phone lines in my neighborhood by a car accident. Copper is exposed to the elements. This accident occurred eight years ago. It has never been fixed.

You can make your choices. I've made mine (and I just got someone else added).
Just educate yourself on the issues first.
