Damn. That's cool. Thanks!
(Not that I was expecting you, Dane, to do that... I really thought that's DPW's responsibility.

I doubt they know where the ILEC COs are, honestly. That's our wheelhouse, rather than their responsibility.virtualmike wrote:Damn. That's cool. Thanks!

Thanks for this link, I see some definitely interesting info here, when combined with google map street view I can see 2 VRAD boxes 5 & 7 blocks away (short blocks too), those two are actually within 2 blocks of each other just on perpendicular streets. There's also a permit for one that's about a year and a half old about 2 blocks away but street view shows a picture of an older style (tall and skinny) box.. and it's funny because there's an AT&T tech parked outside working on it in the picture. I live near McClaren park too and that seems to be a dead area for putting anything down, but 2-5 blocks away sounds reasonable, heck the 5 block one is only 1600 feet away according to Gmap.dane wrote:For San Francisco, check here: http://bsmnt.sfdpw.org/surfacemountedfacilities/
Well I drove down the street and saw the shiny VRAD is right next to the older cross connect box, so that shouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately I don't think they've flipped them on yet, since checking the AT&T site should give me speeds faster than 6Mbps if it's only 2 blocks away.guest wrote:When calculating distance from a VRAD, also consider the distance from the VRAD to the cross-connect box, which might be on another street, and also the length of cable needed to get overhead from the sidewalk, if that's how your service enters.
In almost all cases these added lengths should be negligible, but I imagine there are edge-cases where they add up to something significant in the overall calculation.
