Looks like it's back up now. (Of course, since it's facebook, there's no guessing how long it will last.)

Yep, it's working for me now, too. Thanks.

Yes, several news stations noted this last night. Facebook was inaccessible from anywhere for a couple of hours.

Hi all,

I'm curious if those of you who are experiencing this issue are using Sonic's FTTN service via AT&T? I first started experiencing poor performance on Facebook (generally, just the first post in the Timeline would load and the rest of the page would be unresponsive) about six months ago while I was an AT&T U-Verse customer. Their support was never able to resolve the issue. I switched to Sonic a month ago, but soon discovered that their FTTN customers are stuck with AT&T handling the traffic up to a point.

I have the exact same performance issues on Sonic's FTTN service as I did with AT&T U-Verse. In my experience it is, without a doubt, an issue on AT&T's end because if I switch my laptop's Internet connection to use my phone's cellular connection rather than wifi, the performance issue instantly goes away. If I switch right back to Sonic, the performance issue returns. It's gotten to the point where I just don't use Facebook when I'm at home anymore because it's too frustrating.

I called Sonic's tech support about it and they said there's nothing they could do. They agreed it's probably AT&T's problem, but they said there's no way for them to submit a support issue to AT&T. That doesn't leave me with many options as a Sonic customer to resolve this. I wish Sonic would give AT&T a strong nudge to address this. Six months is a long time to have this issue outstanding... I'm in Livermore, FWIW.

Ben

Have you tried it over Sonic's VPN? If that makes the problem go away, I suppose it could be something to do with AT&T's traffic shaping policies, as mentioned in this thread.

That's a good idea. I'll give it a try and let you know if it helps. Thanks!

It turns out the VPN didn't help, but thanks for the suggestion.

I've also been having issues connecting to Google sites, and this thread viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2560&p=24938#p24938 suggested that the issue is related to IPv6. Sure enough, I turned off IPv6 and both Facebook and Google have been more responsive than ever before. I'll report back if the problem creeps up again, but so far this fix is looking very promising.

If any of you want to give it a try and you have the Motorola NVG589 modem, just go to 192.168.1.254 to access the modem > Home Network > Configure, then you'll see a little drop-down menu to turn IPv6 off.

Man, I have been pulling my hair out over this issue for a long time now. I hope this is finally the cure.

Thanks again for the input,
Ben

I also had a lot of issues with timeouts/slowness on IPv6 on FTTN with the NVG589 modem. The 5268AC is much better in that regard.
