I have received fraud/scam calls from 415-690-8134, Tiburon, CA. The caller claims to be from the IRS litigation group and says that I need to have my attorney call immediately about a tax deficiency or I will be sued. A google search of the number shows that many people are getting calls from this number and are being threatened with arrest and/or deportation unless they pay the supposed tax debt. They called me 7 times within 7 minutes this afternoon.

Hey,
My elderly parents started receiving phone calls from 650-787-0634 at all times of days and night. They don't know the number nor the person who name is on ID. When they answer, there is silence on the other end. The messages that this number leaves are also blanks. I also have a business Fusion line with sonic (estructures) and I called that number from my sonic line and nobody answers. But ever since I called that number, now I am getting similar prank calls on my business line. I called and spoke with a supervisor (Vince) who suggested that I post it here.
Thanks for looking into it.
Alexander

I've gotten several calls after 10 p.m. where the caller ID reads:
Unavailable
886978900820
One went all the way to voicemail; the message was just someone saying "hello? . . . hello?" and hanging up.

Using robocalling devices and lists of phone numbers unscrupulous telemarketers will dial indiscriminately and record which numbers are answered by a live person. In this manner the list is refined and its' value increased so that it can be either used by those individuals or sold to other unsolicited callers. This is advice on an FTC consumer advice on robocalls site (
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0259-robocalls): "Hang up the phone. Don't press 1 to speak to a live operator and don't press any other number to get your number off the list. If you respond by pressing any number, it will probably just lead to more robocalls."
Thank you for posting; actually, the next piece of advice on that FTC page is "Consider contacting your phone provider and asking them to block the number". We appreciate your assistance in reporting spam callers.
Thanks for choosing Sonic.net!

More of these tonight:
886222989302
886222992019
886222980458
All from "unavailable." One of them left a voice mail in a foreign language.
Is there any such thing as a twelve digit phone number?

Not in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP). However, phone numbers in other countries can be up to 16 digits long.
The numbers you noted all begin with 886, which is the country code for Taiwan.
If the next digit is a 2, the number is in Taipei. If the next digit is a 9, the calling number is wireless.
