Second Request

Dear Dane and Scott:

I am posting today to express great dissatisfaction and disappointment with Sonic service and sales.

For many years, when calling tech. support for a variety of issues, I have also inquired about the availability of Sonic Fusion in my area, only to be told by your staff that it is unavailable.

Repeatedly, I have asked to be notified when it will be available in west county, and I have been given repeated assurances that I would be notified when becomes available.

I understand that your mission is "the quality local customer service we deliver, and both the value of our service and the values of our company."

I am disappointed in both.

On 23 January, while speaking with a friend and fellow Sonic customer, I learned of Sonic's FTTN offering. I was aghast and surprised, and very disappointed to learn that he has had this service for quite some time.

He told me that by ordering Sonic FTTN, he was able to get improved Mbps and cancel his ATT service, a significant savings.

Something I have been hoping for for years.

So I called and ordered Sonic FTTN.

When I asked the friendly and courteous Sonic salesperson when Sonic FTTN became available, I was told that you have been offering the service for about two years.

I don't know the exact difference between Fusion and FTTN, but the net gain for me is the same: by using FTTN, I can cancel ATT with a savings of about $32 a month, and get improved Mbps.

I am currently a Sonic Fusion DSL customer.

Your salesperson advised me that FTTN would cost $54.69.

My current Type Pro-R Fusion basic DSL costs $54.95.

Pennies difference. Huge savings (cancel ATT) and huge increase in speed: 2.59 down (DSL) vs. about 20 Mbps down (FTTN).

I asked the salesperson for a credit on my Sonic invoice to be applied for the number of months that I could have had FTTN here, had I known about it, and was told that she would refer the matter.

A Sonic Sales supervisor did call then next day and left a message telling me that Sonic was unable to offer me a credit. He also told me that Sonic FTTN service would cost "between $60 to $65 a month.

So here are my questions:

1) What is the cost of Sonic FTTN?

Is it $54.69 / mo. as the friendly salesperson quoted me, or is it "between $60 and 65 / mo." as the Sonic Sales Supervisor quoted me?

2) When did Sonic FTTN first become available in my area? How many months?

3) Why won't Sonic offer me a credit to compensate for the months which I could have cancelled my ATT and switched to FTTN, had I known?

4) Why was I never informed by Sonic Sales that FTTN was available here, in light my MULTIPLE requests for such notification?

5) How many other Sonic Legacy DSL customers are unaware of Sonic FTTN service?

I have nothing but the highest praise for you and for Sonic Tech support, as through the years, your team has helped me with a variety of issues.

But on this one, Dane and Scott, you have totally disappointed me.

Please arrange for someone in Sonic Sales to contact me to arrange for credit due to this oversight.

Sincerely,

Scott

I'm sorry Scott, we're not able to provide a refund or credit in this case.

There are interesting signs of growth in my area that I hope Sonic will too invest some of that "crowd funding". A San Leandro company, Lit, is currently talking with Hayward to offer fiber service for businesses to compete with AT&T but they don't have any plans for consumers. AT&T is ramping up FTTH in Union City, the first town between Oakland and San Jose to be serviced. Will AT&T progress North or South next? Interested in beating them, Sonic? Even my own speeds grew over the years and now x2 is hopefully available so I still have some faith in fiber tech. Wish others were as fortunate.

Like a few others, I am torn by this news and unfortunately folks are/will be leaving which is understandable. I am sticking with Sonic, even going forward with a x2 upgrade despite AT&T being cheaper for me. I want to see how a year or two goes. If nothing progresses for my area, I may reconsider my options at that point.

So, now that Sonic is as expensive as cable - and in order to justify this increase - can you please publish exactly when we will be getting this long talked about fiber upgrade? I already thought Sonic was pretty expensive for what it is and am not particularly interested in paying more if it isn't coming to north Oakland in the next few months. Thanks.

Quite frankly, $63/month (with taxes) is ridiculous for 10Mbps service in San Francisco. Mind telling me what new features and capabilities I am getting for the extra $10/month?

AT&T is currently offering 45Mbps for $40/month, and Comcast 100 Mbps for $49.99 in my area.

In fact, for people living in your fiber service area, $40 gets you 1000 Mbps in San Francisco.

I just don't see how you figure you are not going to start losing your installed base in droves if you maintain the higher price. I am willing to pay a significant premium for decent customer service, but not this significant.

Unless you roll back the price increase, I will be leaving you as a customer within the next couple of months.

Please contact me if you are willing to roll back the price increase. Otherwise, I will be calling to cancel within the next couple of months, and we will not need to have a long conversation explaining my reasons.

Thanks.

Ditto. I signed up with Sonic to avoid promotional price bait & switch scams of AT&T and Comcast in exchange for a steady $57/month total; I wasn't too happy with the modem rental fee but whatever. But this is a new scam! I'm not on "fiber" yet so don't see why I should be paying $10 more every month to fund Sonic's infrastructure when I do not benefit. What nerve! Sonic should raise capital some other way rather than scam its customers.

Just remember new AT&T and Comcast customers are getting intro pricing so its cheaper for a short time. After a year, the numbers bump up tremendously. Though it does not hurt to ask for discounts later, businesses do need to survive. However good businesses also should try to help out if prices start to change so they are not forced to change providers.

You forgot to mention that new customers are paying the old rate ($40 not $50 for fiber) for 12 months. So old customers are paying for rollouts and for new customers.

Nice reward for being a customer for many years. Thanks for your consideration. You use to have good customer service but with the new fiber comes new people that are rude, ignorant and very unpleasant to deal with. One even hung up on me after calling me and trying to get me to switch to fiber. Sure don't want Comcast but I am researching any other choices.

Woke up on a Sunday morning to grab brunch with friends, and saw my invoice went up significantly. It affected my mood for a little bit, as I always thought sonic is already really expensive compared to other internet providers, and now it's just worse...

I called one of your representatives to complain because I am not happy about it, as why should old customers be paying for your improvements? You should find money elsewhere (stocks or better products and etc.) if your company needs to upgrade.

I have been a customer for over 3 years, and it is not acceptable to just bump up the price by $10+/month for not an upgrade on my service. I mean $1-2 is okay. But $10 a month means $120/year. That's a lot of money. Going to have to look for a new provider unless I get the same price as before.

Worse case is that I wasn't even informed. They can't just send one personal email to acknowledge me...

Bye bye to all the whiny quitters I hope you won't be coming back when fiber is available in your area because then your argument of "I don't have fiber so I am not going to sponsor the roll out" becomes null and invalid ( since at that point somebody else paid for your roll out ) ... And to those who complain about price increase I dare you heck I double dare you to find an ISP that has the same level of service , privacy policy and no data caps for the price that sonic offers ... All of you mention comcast and ATT sure intro rates from those two companies look interesting and after the intro rate expires you are getting screwed over and have to play retention game ( have fun with that ) LOL , not to mention deep packet scanning and data caps ... LOL LOL .

Bye bye Felicia(s) don't let the door hit ya all .
