I've had Sonic for more than 10 years, and have never had any of the issues you're describing - and I'm a picky sort of customer. I wonder what you're expecting. Or perhaps you just have had some very bad luck.SF_3 wrote:Sonic is such a f***ing joke.

Don't use Sonic.

True. This would only apply to people on ADSL and VDSL2.Guest wrote:For POTS, yes, it definitely strikes fear into telcos. I'm on Fusion DSL - still no issues (except for slow speed, since I'm about as far from the CO as one can get - doesn't bother me too much, though of course faster would be nicer).oddhack wrote:True. I just want to share my experience, its been over a year now since I had sonic installed, I had two incidents "VOIP and internet stopped working" I called support, I received excellent service. I am looking forward for static IP and IPV6 support, but for now you can't beat the service and excellent customer service for the price. Let me say this, I had Comcast for over 10 years "just because I could not find any faster and better service", they have the worst customer service, I always tried to avoid calling them for support, just remember Comcast & AT&T is a big corporations with lots of customers, in way they do not care if they loose customers, if you want to go with them go for it, I am sure that you will have to say a lot to say after you call them for support.
If you line speeds are varying that much, so almost certainly have a line problem. A call to customer service is in order.Toxic wrote:I get 5Mps on a good day. The last week it's been on and off and when it's on, I'm getting less than 2.5Mps, sometimes less than 1.0. For this they're going to raise my cost so they can build better service for the places they care about. F**K'em..
Amused that anyone would recommend either Comcast or AT&T.

America’s Most Hated Companies
1. Comcast (CMCSA)
The internet service provider and subscription television service industries are not known for superior customer service. In fact, the two industries have the worst average scores in the American Customer Satisfaction Index. Still, Comcast has a significantly worse customer satisfaction score than either industry average.
But, whereas Comcast can at least offer a faster connection for most DSL users, what would be the benefit of going to AT&T? Since Sonic is using their lines, it seems almost certain you would experience the same issues. And, I've had experienced enough truck rolls as an AT&T customer to know that they'll pull the "line looks fine" game regardless of if you are their customer or not.

Frankly comcast has more of a consistent point of service, and it works for most people. If you order a 25/50mbps service, that is what you tend to get. Not this DSL 'up to' garbage. They do provide a more constant service, however you want to cut it.Guest wrote:Amused that anyone would recommend either Comcast or AT&T.
The service as you have highlighted has terrible customer service. It's not a secret. Most people I know on Comcast tend to not need to contact support, but when they do, they are 'prepared'.
AT&T has more control over the lines than Sonic. If it was a choice between AT&T or Sonic, I would choose Sonic over AT&T, for the same reason they are essentially running over the same infrastructure. Sonic over Comcast though? Tough call. At the minimum, anyone can easily get 25mbps service. 25mbps service at comcast will cost 'up to' 62/month. You can't say that with Sonic. Depending on your distance from a CO/RT/location, you can get aDSL, vDSL, FTTN, to Fiber. A typical starting price of 50~/month for service that can be as 'low' as 10mbps to 1000mbps.
I am the program manager for a facility in Santa Rosa. Our non-profit runs a number of facilities around the area and in the last year we have all switched to Sonic. In every case there were numerous difficulties with the switch and loss of services. To add to that relatively short-lived turmoil(about a month at each program) our phone bills all more than doubled! This from a company who promised our bills would be cut way down. In my own facility which holds 12 clients, has 2 phones and 2 laptops, the bill went up from $500 per month to over $1100 with Sonic. Both phone or internet get only moderate usage here so the bill is outrageous. At another facility their bill was over $`10,000 for less than a year's service. I would not recommend Sonic to anyone for any reason. We are now working on switching back to our old provider. What a disaster.
Clearly you don't have access to Sonic's own fiber and you are using their resold product from AT&T. There are limitations that that service and those limitations are listed when signing up for service, in your terms of service and also listed on Sonic's support website. Perhaps move so you can use Sonic's own fiber service so you don't have to go through AT&T?
