Hello!

Looks like for your area we are working on MUNI permitting. This permitting request does take some time and our Project Manager in this area is working as quickly as they can to get this requested pushed to the powers that be. We are looking for a Late September - Mid October go live date if we factor in how long these MUNI permits take.

Best Wishes!
Thank you for the updates! Is there anything we can do (e.g. reaching out to Muni or the SF gov) to help unblock/streamline the permit process and ensure it goes through in a timely manner? (From this thread it sounds like these permits have been a big blocker in the past.) Very happy to help if there is anything we can do to move things along.
Hello!

Sadly, not much you guys can do to make this process any faster. These are our major stop points and we are working with SF / Muni to get these permits as fast as possible. Thanks for offering to help!

Best Wishes!

Last week I saw installers one block away, using the same fiber runs that pass my house. Today I check the status page and it has jumped from September 2024 to January 2025.

This has been dragging on for three years now, with millions invested in all the fiber up on the poles, generating zero revenue. Enough with the excuses and ill-informed spokespeople on this forum, Sonic. Assign one person to park themselves at whatever office in San Francisco issues these permits and have them pester them every. single. day. until the permits and other red tape are tackled. You are losing that person's salary in potential new customers who go elsewhere because of this boondoggle.

If your Fiber Status Update is incorrect then I'll apologize here. But if it it's going to keep jumping out to 2025, 2026, never, then just shut it down.
Hello!

Thanks for your feedback. Sadly, having someone there each day would not really do much to help this situation. Patience is what is needed to complete these MUNI / ADA permiting steps. I am sorry that you feel the Fiber Status page is always wrong but we do try to keep any type of timeframe updated there. Hopefully, we will have service sooner rather then later.

Best Wishes!

The go live dates are set for the end of each month. You should see a change by the end of August, if not sooner. (Or me being super optimistic and believing fiber will be ready this month)

Patience is why this project is taking three years to complete. At some point someone needs to go to the building/planning department and apply a lot more pressure to this situation. We are seeing the absurd and completely unacceptable situation where one permit expires while waiting for another, and then not having the original permit automatically renewed (assuming its variables are the same as original) once the rest are approved.

And why hasn't Sonic reached out to all the waiting customers to sign a letter stating their frustrations with the city? You don't think that would be useful in this situation? I'm at the point where I will start doing that myself (I've done it in the past and gotten enough demand to have a gas company to run lines to an unimproved area), going door-to-door and leaving notices. But why the hell should I have to do that when other bureaucracy-busting actions haven't been applied? What is it going to take?

Hello,

Sadly, the process is not as cut and dry as just hounding them to do the work. I am sure there are plenty of other limiting factors that are affecting the permitting process. There might be personal limitations, Priority permitting, shutting the services down to work near Muni lines, and many other factors. Not to mention our own limitations as a small company trying to get service out to as many areas as possible.

We are looking at all avenues of opportunity when it comes to getting these permits. I can't say what that is, but trust me when I say we want to finish these projects and get service out to our customers just as much as you want the service.

I hope to have an update for your area soon!

Best Wishes!

Any updates? it's almost the end of August. I haven't seen any sonic trucks around in a while.

Thank you.

@jerrielm — I am wondering if you know when the north side of Bernal near Precita Park might become eligible for upgrade to 10Gbps. More specifically, I'm wondering about Harrison Street between Precita Ave and Norwich St.

Is the timeline for 10Gbps upgrade availability connected in any way to this timeline for expansion to the South side of Bernal? Or are these two things totally separate projects?

Thanks in advance for any clarity you can offer here.
