The current scam is for an automated system to call your number, and wait for someone to answer.
If you answer, there will be no one on the line, and the call hangs up.
IThe callerID will be a fake number in this case- if you call back, the number will not be in service (in one case there was a message saying that her number had been spammed, and she wasn't the one calling!)
But, your number is then passed on to a telemarketer who will call you later that day, or hour.
The telemarketer that calls later may or may not have a fake number.
They will claim that they're not a telemarketer and don't have to pay attention to the do-not-call list.
I just called that number back, and it was a real number for some telemarketer.
So, if I'm on, say, Comcast, and sign up with nomorobo, I have a nomorobo.com account, and can log in to their website and report these numbers.
On sonic.net I can't - as far as I can tell. Am I missing something?
