New sonic.net webmail application

(Win XP with IE 7.0) Subjects are all listed as "u...", sender field is blank, and screens scroll horizontally. A disappointment.

Fully up to date releases of Chrome and Firefox are available for windows XP should you want to consider using different browser.

Any solution for the bracketed text? Also, the dark grey submenus are almost unreadable except on the brightest of our screens. Thanks.

Here's a problem that's bitten me a couple of times already: in the Settings mode, if I make changes in
some section (User Interface, say) and then move to another section without clicking Save, the changes
are silently lost. This is unlike the usual Mac or Linux (at least) preferences behavior -- either the changes
should take effect immediately (without requring an explicit Save action), or there should be a warning which
prompts the user to save changes before moving to another section.

If I'm understanding you correctly, I'm not sure what to do about changing the behavior of how the original message is quoted. This is very, very, normal behavior in a mail client - Thunderbird, for example, doesn't even have the option to change the '>' to something else or to disable the line quoting behavior entirely without using an extension or editing the config by hand.

I'll see what we can do to improve the readability of the context menu. It should be straight forward to update the styling to improve the contrast and readability on the context menus.

Jon, this is a good point. There are also some other cases where warnings and/or confirmation dialog boxes would be a good idea and may save someone considerable grief.

Ah. Connect with the SSH client of your preference to shell.sonic.net. Issue the command "cd $MAIL" to gain direct access to your mail spool. New messages will be in the ".new" directory, old messages will be in ".cur"

I wouldn't expect this to be a practical alternative for your purposes, so I had refrained from suggesting it.

How can we remove the ">" or html blue bar from our response emails? They annoy me and everyone else. I wish there was an option to get rid of them. Unless this annoyance is yet another Nazi plot of the sonic development team

The ">" signs are old school quote indicators dating back to the early days of the Internet.

This isn't currently an option. The ">" appears to indicate a quoted line when composing in plain text, the blue vertical line appears to indicate a quoted line when composing with HTML. You can quote without these indications by using the "forward" button instead of replying. Of course, forwarding doesn't auto-complete the recipient's address (and the subject automatically is rewritten with "Fwd:" instead of "Re:"), so I can see why this would be a nuisance.

This is similar to the behavior in Thunderbird.
