What is the correct way of accessing what I used to see on the ~/public_html symlink in shell? That doesn't work in the ftp view.

[updated with answer to my own question in case it helps someone else]

Connecting to ftp.sonic.net in Finder on my Macbook had the problem of that not handling symlinks to absolute paths.
But using an ftp client like Filezilla works fine.

I just discovered that the shell server was brought offline when shell.sonic.net failed to DNS resolve; I started trying to debug my DNS settings.

I'm very sad it's gone. I guess I'm not surprised not many people were using it, and I didn't use it very often, but I'm going to have to figure out a new way of working to move stuff about in my personal web space.

Um... The FTP server isn't responding to ls or dir.

How do we access our files?

(rsync preferred if feasible)

Never mind. Worked today for some reason.
