Hi,
I have a blog at this address. http://bnoble.users.sonic.net/wordpress/ I was using too much bandwidth as it is growing so I got a domain name. Http://www.bobseyes.net. I purchased a value package for my new site, I think it was called.
I was told to install wordpress to the new site folder, which was bobseyes.net in the same directory as the old blog site.
So I did this. Then I ftp'd the old site blog folder to my hard drive . I then uploaded all the stuff in my old site folder into the new folder, bobseyes.net, replacing what was in there. I'm not sure I should have done it that way?
So, I got some help from support and they directed me to the Wiki on moving a wordpress folder.
The directions there must be for older versions or something as they directed me to go the wordpress dashboard and change the url address in there, but, it was grayed out and would not let me do this. The problem here is all the old stuff in the old folder all has stuff pointing at where the old stuff is using this path, so it has to be taken care of somehow when the stuff gets put in the new folder and it sounds like this should all be taken care of if it all goes right?
The end result is I now have two folders with my site in them, the old one and the new one. And the real problem is now all the stuff I try to post to the new site, gets stored in the old site and the new site dashboard is still in the old site folder.
The good part is my blog readers still can get to my blog though both addresses, so I'm still rolling.
The problem is how to straighten this mess out? I'm thinking that if I dump all the stuff in the new site folder and reinstall wordpress in it, this might all work right with the dashboard and posts stored in the old folder and not in the new folder?
However, that might leave me with the new url for my site not finding the old site folder?
It seems I need at least something in the new folder to get to the old site folder, but I'm not sure how this all works? The site has a lot of pictures in it, so I do not want it stored in two places.
My searches on this subject haven't turned up any solved solutions for the problem yet?
And advice or help in fixing this up would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Bob
