hello all,

new customer here, stumbling on a strange behavior.

I cannot reach the domains zoomata.com and maffulli.net (they're hosted on the same service, by 1and1) from the Sonic DSL. The servers are up, reacheable from other sources. This is the tracepath I see from sonic@home:
reed@sputacchio:~$ tracepath zoomata.com

And if I try to telnet to port 80 from two computers from the home@sonic DSL I get:
reed@sputacchio:~$ telnet zoomata.com 80
Trying 74.208.169.115...
telnet: Unable to connect to remote host: Connection timed out
reed@sputacchio:~$
But from a remote server I have on a cloud I get:
smaffulli@community:~$ telnet zoomata.com 80
Trying 74.208.169.115...
Connected to zoomata.com.
Escape character is '^]'.
get /
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN">

<title>501 Method Not Implemented</title>
</head><body>
<h1>Method Not Implemented</h1>
<p>get to / not supported.<br />
</p>
</body></html>
Connection closed by foreign host.
The server seems to be up then, but I can't connect from home. Any clues?

I have done some more investigation and this keeps getting weird. Here is what happens:

I can connect to both maffulli.net and zoomata.com, I can browse the frontend of both sites from my two laptops, tablets and phones, all connected from home's wifi. I can also connect to the backends (WordPress admin pages).

When I go to my wife's laptop (Mac OS X 10.5.x) I can connect to frontend and backend using Safari. If I try to connect to the frontend with Firefox on both sites all is fine but things break when I connect to http://zoomata.com/wp-admin/ pages from Firefox from my wife's computer (I've tried also disabling all addons, same effect). After attempting to connect with my wife's laptop *none* of the other devices are able to connect, if connecting from the home ADSL

I have no problem connecting to the sites from the mobile phone *IF* I disable the wifi interface... hinting that something is interfering with the sonic ADSL.

Isn't that weird? What can be causing this? I mean, I think now I know that Firefox on my wife's laptop may be the source of problems... but I can't explain it. Can you?

Is 1and1 doing some weird wordpress security thing? There was a distributed password attack going around about a week ago... Hitting /wp-admin/ and then everything going dark sounds like something overprotective there.

I get this from Sonic DSL space:

linux-imv0:xyzzy {109} telnet zoomata.com 80
Trying 74.208.169.115...
Connected to zoomata.com.
Escape character is '^]'.

Connection closed by foreign host.

I'm on the 173.228.4.0/24 block

And I can traceroute from a Windows machine on the 50.1.80.0/24 block:

17 83 ms 92 ms 84 ms vl-982.gw-ps4.ga.mkc.us.oneandone.net [74.208.6.136]
18 85 ms 84 ms 83 ms perfora.net [74.208.169.115]

I can also get to all my 1&1 stuff just fine

Don't know what it means, but hope it helps.

I traced it back to some weirdness in firefox on my wife's computer: accessing wp-admin made the database on 1and1 crash. So weird. I had to create a new identity for her, and re-sync passwords, configs and plugins. All working now: nothing to do with networking issues. Geez, it was weird.
