If you get the right client, you can configure your news reader to first try to pull data from news.sonic.net before going to your outside pay news service. You get the highest speed every time and you only use the pay news service for missing posts. If you are paying by the megabyte (or have a monthly quota), you use less and your news service will be cheaper.
