The rough estimate right now is that this will not get delivered until mid 2026 at the earliest
Good to have an update, but this isn't what I'd have liked. When I signed-up, in September 2023, the install date was early 2024 (March, IIRC). It sounds like it's going to be at least two years late, even if I believe Sonic's latest estimate. SIgh.Is there anything residents can do to speed this up?

By the language, seems like that mid-2026 date is just when the permits will be approved, which means construction might take another year or two beyond that. Might end up being 2027, and that's only if the permits are approved in a year's time.

The Sonic reply doesn't mention the permits taking into mid 2026. It's talking about actual delivery of the project by mid-2026. The city typically grants permits in a couple of weeks but for a large project it could take as much as 2 to 3 months. So if they submit their application fairly soon which it sounds like they're planning to all could be well.

This nonsense about needing permission to use pg&e's poles is a red herring. As a public utility PG&E has no choice but to allow other Public Utilities to utilize their poles. If you look at the work PG&E has done on all these poles all over the city in terms of replacing them you see many of these so-called pole butts sitting with various non PG&E utilities affixed to them. The PG&E story had always been that Comcast and AT&T plus any cell companies or whoever else has equipment on the PG&E poles needed to relocate that equipment to the new Pole. That kind of makes sense but recently the Los Altos Town Crier had a story where they were quoting PG&E is saying that they were working on dealing with the leftover pole butts. In fact in many cases when PG&E replaced the pole they did in fact relocate the other utilities onto the new Poles. That's because as public utilities PG&E has a responsibility to keep it all working for everyone. This looks to me like just another case of the monopolistic Power Company not adhering to the laws that apply to it. They might be virtually saying that's okay we're too big to care.
