Hello,

Apologies for asking a question you probably hear often.

I’m considering moving to Hercules, CA, and I read in this forum that Sonic is currently planning and designing Fiber Optic coverage in Pinole, CA. From what I understand, it might take around 2-3 years to fully cover the Pinole area.

I’m curious if Hercules, being right next to Pinole, would be the next city Sonic expands to once coverage in Pinole reaches 80-90%. If that’s the case, I assume it could take around 5-6 years before Sonic becomes available in Hercules.

Does Sonic typically wait until one city’s deployment is fully complete before moving to the next?
If not, could you please share if there are any active plans or designs for Hercules at this time?

Thank you for your time and information.

Best regards,
Gatsby

HI Gatsby,

There is no need to apologize for asking; we understand your excitement about wanting Fiber to come to your area.

There has been no announcement about us coming to Hercules yet. However, that could change at any point, so it's difficult to provide a guesstimate of how long it will be before we eventually reach that area.

Regarding whether or not we typically wait for total completion in an area before moving to the next area, it depends. I know that's not a really informative answer, but it's a tricky question to provide an answer to. Sometimes, we wait until a large part of the area is completed before moving on to the next area, and sometimes, we do multiple areas close together all at the same time. It really comes down to the resources/manpower we have available at a given time and what cities/areas have voiced the most demand for us to expand there to increase our overall take rate as much as possible.

There are certain situations where we finish up a city's deployment somewhere further away, then immediately announce an expansion to an area right next to another area/city we're already working on. So it's impossible to say for sure unfortunately, but we are working hard to continue expanding to new areas as quickly as we possibly can.

I apologize for all the non-answer "answers", but that's ultimately the best insight I can provide. Although, I hope we can announce expansion to Hercules in the near future.

Kind regards,
Brandon C.

I’m currently in San Mateo and have been using Sonic for 2–3 years.
(I believe I waited about 2–3 years after my pre-order before finally getting Sonic Fiber at my home.)

Since switching to Sonic, my homelab setup has grown significantly — including NAS devices, a 10G router, three UPS units, and several services exposed to the Internet.

It’s hard to imagine moving to a place without Sonic Internet. In fact, I find it difficult to think of a better ISP in the SF Bay Area when considering cost, reliability, and support.

I may need to move to Hercules, CA soon. At the very least, I was encouraged when I spotted a Sonic staff vehicle in Pinole last Sunday — I assume one of your staff members lives there.

From what I’ve observed, expanding to a new area takes time — typically at least three years.
So realistically, I suspect it may take 6 to 10 years before I can enjoy Sonic Internet at my new home.

Thank you for your reply
