Hi folks,

I've got a Sonic-hosted Wordpress blog (http://metaphorager.net) and have set up an [email protected] email account that forwards to my longtime Sonic email account ([email protected]), because I want to tell my subscribers (and my Subscribe2 plugin) that emailed subscribers' posts originate instead from there. It's currently sending posts to subscribers using [email protected], but the plugin is telling me that "You appear to be sending notifications from [email protected], which has a different domain name than your blog server metaphorager.net. This may result in failed emails." If I change Settings > General > Email Address instead to [email protected], will the annoying message go away? Or should I just not worry about it? ;-)

Thanks, and be well,

Neal

Hi Neal,

In your case, it's probably fine that you send as [email protected], assuming that the plugin is sending from Sonic's web servers and not a 3rd-party service. Since your MX for metaphorager.net is Sonic, you can also use any valid domain email address that you've set up - this can be handy if folks reply to your emails, since you can filter by the To: address being @metaphorager.net instead of direct emails to your plain sonic.net address.

If I were to venture a guess, I'd say that the warning in that plugin is because if you were to put something like a gmail address in there, it would probably be rejected by some providers, since Google (and many others) use Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and other checks to detect and reject messages that aren't coming from the official servers for that domain. By default, we set up the necessary records so that a domain we host (such as yours) can send with email addresses from it. (*@metaphorager.net in your case)

Hey Joe,

Great! Thanks for that. I guess I won't mess with success -- I was just concerned that my subscribers were missing my posts, and that doesn't sound like it's the case. (Not to load you up, but I've asked another question elseforum about a wonky SSL certificate that's mad-dogging my stats and other plugins; is that something you know about?)

Be well,

Neal
