Is this the last remaining hurdle to getting service deployed in south Bernal (Crescent Ave between Murray and Agnon) or is there some other major work that still needs to be done?
Just following up here :)
It seems the date has been pushed back to January. sorry for the delays!

Thanks for the reply. Is there some more permitting work with the city that needs to be done still, or is this just a matter of Sonic’s internal scheduling at this point?

Trying to determine how likely it is that the date actually sticks this time. ;)

Hello!

There have been a few delays that we finally got past and checking in with my Plant Manager in the area, the January timeline is looking great. Hopefully no more delays.

Best Wishes!

My forecasted live date is October 2024 (banks st at ogden st) -- while a natural optimistic, I'm thinking November, maybe? Since there is no more city obstacles?

Anyway my question is about the installation, any details out there about what it looks like? Is an outdoor distribution box installed? Are you running fiber to the home router at home?

Thanks and looking forward to it!

Sorry for the late reply. It seems the date got moved back. We are still working with the city to get an ADA ramp approved and with MUNI to get lines set up.

Best Wishes!
Any updates here? still says October.
Sadly, it was pushed out to January, but it seems the ADA ramps have been completed, as well as the MUNI line stuff.
just checking on this again. you say January, but the fiber status tool keeps moving month to month, currently November. the inconsistency is frustrating.

anything definitive?

You know the big wheel they use on The Price Is Right? I think that's what they use to schedule the fiber installs.

(Actually, a neighbor near Andover is supposedly scheduled for installation tomorrow which would demonstrate some movement after all these delays.)

I have noticed a lot of sonic trucks and vans south of cortland, so things are moving. I thought they were going in order of pre-registration though, I'm surprised that many people signed up BEFORE me :-D

I realize I am years late to this thread. I, for one, can't wait to say good riddance to Xfinity and their xfinite amount of monopolistic sleazeballery. But in the interest of stress-reduction and good-neighborliness, my 2 cents:

RE: Impatience with Sonic PR people

I read back through the entire thread, and, with all due respect: one fact that seems to get lost in the (understandable) impatience for Fiber in our homes is this: Sonic wants each and every one of us to get Fiber service even more than we want it. They are a for-profit business. They are 100% dedicated to getting as many of us as possible, as quickly as possible, signed up to hand over our monthly cash.

I don't understand the point of forcing the PR people who show up here to make predictions they don't want to make (because they know there are infinite ways the dates could change), and then berating them when the dates inevitably change. Yes, Public Relations people are paid to... well, relate to the public . But it still adds unnecessary stress.

Is it dumb to suggest that we treat the status updates as what they are, estimates subject to change, and relax in the knowledge that Sonic is on our side even more than we are? That they are doing everything they can against an ocean of CCSF, State and Federal rules, regulations, reviews etc, the nature of which we can't even imagine? What possible reason would they have to delay? They know far more about the process than we do, and have existential motivation to give us exactly what we want. Does anybody really doubt that SONIC will hook us up the instant they are able to?

RE: Bugging City Officials

This is the more important point.

It has been suggested that people go to relevant Departments and bug the crap out of officials in those Departments. IMHO, this is a counterproductive, probably well-intentioned, terrible idea. (Supervisors are the exception. Part of their job description is to masochistically listen to every word of every constituent. Go nuts. :D )

But the Departments who have jurisdiction over the rollout of Fiber in our neighborhood are different. 1) They are run by unelected humans who, in general, want infrastructure progress to happen. 2) But they are bound to follow the Rules that we, through direct election and indirect representation, have put in place. 3) They have actual power over the process.

The relevant description is "human." It is human nature to get defensive when attacked. Of the thousands of people who play a part in our situation, there are bound to be a few who can't resist human nature. If we piss them off, they have the ability to mess things up in all sorts of ways. Forget to initial a contract on page 563 of 984 pages and a couple of weeks get added to the wait for a bit of support infrastructure. You get the point. We want them to love us, to feel like working 5 minutes overtime and being late to their kid's soccer practice because of how nice the lady from Bernal Heights was when they ran into her in the hallway outside the Planning meeting. We don't want them to hate us.

I could be totally off base, but it seemed worth mentioning.

----------------------

Meanwhile, I expect my address's Time to Live Fiber estimate of Nov 2024 to be pushed back. If my expectations are met, there's no disappointment; stress is pointless. But if I'm wrong and I get hooked up this month, what a welcome surprise!

I hope this is helpful in some way. Fingers crossed for all of Bernal...
