I just recently received Sonic's 10gig service. It's faster than anything I've ever used. But, I'm not seeing typical speed consistency.

I went and updated my round and NIC card to 10gig as well. I know advertised typical speeds should be "UP TO" 8700down 8700up. Yes, I understand 10gig doesn't mean 10gig due to network overhead, etc.

The fastest download I was able to pull has been 500MB/sec (4000Mbps).

When I run speed tests I get a pretty variable range of speeds. This varies from day to day.
Mbps speeds
6000down - 6000up
4000down - 1900up
3700down - 2700up
*8000down - 6700up ... best test.

When I use my 2.5Gpbs port, i typically get 2200down - 2200up

Should this be the case? Any Ideas? Mostly, just curious if others experience the same.

It's possible my NIC card isn't working they way it should.
- I've eliminated the router and tried several different 10gig compatible network cables.
- card is PCIx4, which has a throughput of 3 Gigabytes/sec(24,000mbps) as a PCIE 3.0, so it shouldn't be the PCIE lane.
- I don't have a way to natively test the throughput of the card.

What’re you using to test speed? For max results the Speedtest.net native client or their CLI client should work best. And note that it’s very hard to find a single-stream source that can max out 10Gbps, so an FTP for example likely won’t fill the full capacity of your connection.

I understand it could be difficult to get a 10gig stream, but the download was behaving per current speed test conditions.

All I am trying to figure out is this typical for sonic 10gig.

2.5gig connection is always within overhead. 10gig connection varies widely.

the computer is fine. there's never a period where the cpu is loaded more than 40% during a speedtest.
