So with the shell server gone that means our web site logs are gone too? Have I got that right? I still haven't got used to the change and I'm never going to like it.

Has web site logging for Sonic hosted sites has stopped completely? Or do the logs continue but customers can't access them?

thanks

They are still available, but with the shell server gone they are located at ftp.sonic.net:/var/log/httpd/USERNAME/. Let us know if you have any trouble accessing them.

When I try to access /var/log/httpd I get "permission denied".

We don't permit the directory listing, but you should be able to access the directory of the username the hosting in question is under.

I used the shell server for posting web pages for the neighborhood. Very useful.

Only recently found out that the shell server was turned off in July 2024. It would have helped if the users received a message
in advance. Now I would like to download the content from the web pages. An above message indicates the data is
available from

ftp.sonic.net/var/log/httpd/USERNAME/...

but the address is incomplete. What is needed to type instead of the ... after USERNAME/ ?

I use an open source ftp application FileZilla that is easy to use and works well to download files.
Any help on retrieving data from web pages that were on the shell server is appreciated.

The server which held your content (sh.sonic.net) is gone. The above FTP link is only for accessing the website logs. There's no content there.

Try pointing your FTP client at "ftp.sonic.net". Enter your Sonic username and password when prompted. That should take you to your content.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Racer for the instructions.

Followed your advice, pointed my ftp client to ftp.sonic.net, logged on with username, password.
Was able to download the webalizer directory, and access_log file of my account.

Try "ftp.sonic.net/pub/users/[username]"
