That's odd, because everything posted here by Sonic staff states that all installations are 10GB. Perhaps call Support to get the true story?
Hello!

Depending on where you are you might have different options. While 10gig is now normally installed, we still have customers who are in 1gig areas that can only get 1gig. I hope that clears it up.

Best Wishes!

I called to upgrade and have been informed it's available...for a one time $300 fee. Yet my neighbor across the street can sign up today, pay no additional fee and receive the same 10GB internet. Why is Sonic punishing loyal customers?
I was told by the install tech yesterday (June 24, 2024) during my 1 Gbit install that there is no upgrade fee for 10 Gbit. He even called an "expert" who also confirmed there is NO FEE to upgrade to 10 Gbit. Obviously, as of June 25, 2024, there is a $299 fee to upgrade. Why is this information not available to the installation team?
We'll certainly look into that, sorry for the confusion! All equipment in your neighborhood is 1Gbps today. Currently customers may request and pre-authorize an upgrade, but we're not yet executing them in your area.

Just wanted to add for those making comparisons to Comcast that, while DOCSIS 4.0 stuff is in theory coming, I don't think it's available basically anywhere? Which means while you may be able to get "1 gigabit" speeds, they're certainly not going to mention the upstream numbers ;)

Here's what I can get locally for the bargain price of $85/mo, but only for the first 24 months ($119/mo thereafter), and only if I don't use more than the data cap (or only $30/mo more for unlimited!).

AT&T is closer to being competitive in that they can offer true symmetrical gigabit for $80-90/mo, but at least in my area (East Bay, Richmond hills, where Sonic 10 gig is just about to come online), it's certainly more expensive.

Thanks for the continued rollout Sonic—excited to be a customer again.

Side note: those FCC-mandated broadband "nutrition labels" are awesome! Years back it was nearly impossible to find the upstream speeds for Comcast plans, and now they're right there on the tin.

I won't complain about Sonic's deployment speed, even though I signed up 14 months ago, and dark Sonic fibre taunts me from across the street every time I leave the house. I live in a part of Castro Valley that for more than 20 years hasn't seen Internet infrastructure investment that wasn't paid for by the Federal government. We have the choice of Xfinity or 100Mbps AT&T Uverse. AT&T has only deployed FTTH along very, very narrow corridors parallel to their network they upgraded with fibre to reach public schools that was funded by the Federal government, and a block or two perpendicular if one is lucky and the stars are aligned.

What tiny Sonic is doing puts the Lie to AT&T saying it isn't cost effective to upgrade the network infrastructure in legacy neighborhoods. And I won't start with Comcast.

Keep up the good work Sonic! I'll do my best to patiently wait for my XG-PON install....
