Is there any hope of getting my neighborhood updated to 10G?

I started using your DSL service years ago when your service first became available in Berkeley near the Longfellow middle school. After several years it became cheaper to go with Crapcast with faster speeds before your fiber service was available. It wasn't a great experience during those years with my network constantly having issues and always having to keep up with the lower cost deals expiring and having to contact them to get a current deal. I was so excited when your 1G Fiber finally came to my neighborhood and pre-ordered it immediately. I've had little to no issues with my network since then... thank you!!!

Now several years later and all your new fiber expansions are 10G at the same price as the 1G but with the option to not have to have a phoneline, which with all the additional fees that go with a phoneline brings my bill to almost $85/month. I've never even connected a phone, so am forced to pay for something I've never used. Sadly my neighborhood is stuck in a situation that we can't get your faster service due to getting Fiber earlier than other neighborhoods.

I've already used the link on your website to request getting 10G. I'm hoping that you can provide me with an update as to when this might happen and what obstacle(s) are preventing the upgrade?

We're working on upgrade staging now. It's a complex project due to differing power and cooling requirements in the central office, as well as the logistics of the consumer upgrade process, fulfillment of CPE and old CPE return, etc. But we're getting closer, and I expect the first test market to see upgrades offered soon. (This is in addition to roughly 5,000 customer sites in Oakland and San Francisco that can already upgrade, those sites were already CO-ready as they were deployed during the changeover from GPON to XGS-PON.)

Thanks for the quick reply. It's great to hear that a test market is getting close to getting offered the upgrade. Are you able to share what area would most likely be the test market and for about how long that test cycle might be before it would get rolled out to other areas? I'm not looking for a specific date to then say you didn't do what you said by that date, just a guestimate.

I’ve heard they were looking at Petaluma as the test market for XGS-PON upgrade launch, but that’s subject to change, it was a suggestion not a decision at that stage. No idea on timing I’m afraid.
