Callers suddenly cannot hear me

This has become a regularly occurring situation since my service got changed to fiber.
At first I figured it was their problem, but it is now happening so regularly (okay, once a week at least) that I can't help but think it is mine. I am chatting with a friend (from New York, from Hawaii) and suddenly I can still hear him/her, but s/he is saying "hello? hello? can you hear me?" If I hang up and call them, all is well again.

What is going on?

The support team here could have voice ops look at the logs for the call to see if they see any explanation for the one-way audio. To kick that off, email support@sonic.net with a brief description of the issue, and the date and time of the call and the number you called or were called by.
