I recently swapped out my router and now I am receiving around 400mbs through Ethernet. Are there any specific settings i need to make sure is in place to get speeds closer to 1gb?
Only getting half speeds over ethernet with 1gb fiber

What router??
Excelsior, Sonic Fiber
How are you testing the speed?

I would recommend testing the speed in a couple of ways. Make sure that you're using a Cat5e or Cat6 ethernet cable, otherwise that could be causing the lower speeds. First, unplug your router, and test the connection to the "LAN" port on the ONT using a computer. You should be getting close to 1,000 Mbps download and upload that way. Then reconnect the router and run another test from one of the ethernet ports on the router. If you're still seeing a discrepancy, it's likely something to do with the router you're using or how it's configured.

One other caution: many routers have an internal speed test, but the router itself may not have the CPU capacity to test at the gigabit or higher speeds that Sonic delivers. So you may see slower speeds shown in the router’s interface for testing results, but that’s not a valid test: it’s just showing the limit of the router’s CPU.
Routers do though pass traffic through at “wire speed”, not through the CPU, so a router might pass traffic at 900+Mbps but show an internal speed test result that’s far lower. That’s misleading and inaccurate. FYI!
I’d any of this is unfamiliar or not something you’re totally comfortable self-managing without any support, consider using the equipment (and support for the equipment) that Sonic provides.

I swapped my router to an ASUS ZenWiFi AX XT8.joeyyung911 wrote:What router??
I tested speeds via the speedtest from the sonic site.dane wrote:How are you testing the speed?
The weird thing is my previous router (Netgear Nighthawk AX8) was able to pull close to 1gb speeds. I'll try swapping out some cables to see if that helps. or plugging directly from the modem and forego the router altogether to see if speeds change.
Thanks!
We can’t support third-party equipment, so I’m afraid you’re on your own on anything beyond the connection itself if you’re not using the Sonic router.

According to the specs it has a 2.5G wan port so you're not limited there. As a test I would try disabling some of the Asus features like 'AiProtection' and 'Traffic Control' to see if the speeds improve. Updating the firmware if applicable doesn't hurt either but its built in IPS and/or QoS functions may be contributing to this.dwong316 wrote:I swapped my router to an ASUS ZenWiFi AX XT8.joeyyung911 wrote:What router??
