Could the perl module DBD::mysql, as installed for perl5.10.1, be upgraded to a more recent version please?

I am trying to install Movable Type on a "Basic Hosting" host.

The problem: the version of DBD::mysql installed for perl.5.10.1 appears to be out of date and unable to operate with mysql databases.

The symptoms:

Movable Type reports the error "Connection error: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client ". Sonic.net ran into this same problem last year (on a different host?):

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=299&p=1804&hilit=perl+mysql#p1804

Movable Type's diagnostics say that it is using perl 5.10.1 and version 3.0008 of DBD::mysql

Using perl 5.10.1 is appropriate but I think that 3.0008 of DBD::mysql is badly out of date, hence the error.

The out of date version of DBD::mysql is loaded from here:

/opt/perl/lib/site_perl/5.10.1/i686-linux-thread-multi/DBD

This has been upgraded. Let me know if you see any issues.

Thanks,

Thank you! (In the very short term I'm going to stick with the work-around we discussed ex-forum while I get some other stuff done but after that I look forward to switching over to the installed version.)
