I have been enjoying sonics newserver and would miss it. The interface is much easyer to use then web base systems because I can look through a list's of hundreds or maybe thousands of headers all at once and they can be grouped by thread username or date instantly by clicking on the tabs and groupnames. If a group is not up to date then one click will update the many hundreds of headers in just a couple of seconds. I don't see how any web based system could be made to work anywhere near this fast. It takes hours scrolling through dozens of screens looking for the same kinds of things that only used to take a few minutes.
Yep.
Usenet was good.
Too good.
No time spent watching the ads. Killfiles. Sorting. Fast. FAST. Not easily trackable.
No time at all spent watching the ads.
No way to sell the users to the we-own-it-now web industry.
Alas, Usenet.
