Call forwarding + voicemail

If i enable call forwarding and nobody picks up, will it go to Sonic voicemail or once it forwards is it no longer monitoring whether somebody picks up? In other words, do I need to have an answering machine or voicemail on the forwrded-to line or can I continue to use Sonic voicemail for messages?

Call forwarding will rely on the destination voicemail, as Sonic's Voicemail is essentially out of the loop at that point.
