While looking into a perceived download speed loss I find that my sonic modem shows 15xxx but the sonic speed test gives 13xxx. which is correct and any reason why?
When I started fusion I used to get speeds of over 18xxx
thanks

A common rule is to figure that you will see about 85% of full pipe speed. So, your 15xxx and 13xxx is about right.

Using that pipe analogy it is like measuring the outer diameter versus the inner diameter. So that would mean that *both* measurements are correct.

According to my modem my full pipe speed id 179xx and my current speed is 15999
Shouldn't my speed test show 85% of the 179xx figure not 13xxx

The 18Mbps figure is the theoretical maximum sync rate for your line based on the conditions of the line. The 16Mbps figure is what your modem is actually sync'd at. Your line is capped at 16Mbps I am presuming for stability reasons. The cap is set to 16000Kbps and the modem is sync'd at 15993Kbps with a Signal to Noise Ratio of 6.1dB which is good, we prefer to have a minimum of 6.0dB SNR.

We can raise your cap if you like, to see if you can sync at a better rate though it may come at the cost of stability. Adjusting cap rates is intrusive so you'd lose internet for a few minutes while we implement it.
