Hello,

I'm trying to add my sonic account to my android and it's asking me for 'security type'. I saw a similar post, but the Sonic rep recommended going to a wiki site that did not seem to provide the answer.

Please advise.

Thank you!

What are the options?

For imap4 there are four options, ssl, ssl (accept all certificates), ttl, and ttl (accept all certificates).

That's for incoming mail. If I remember correctly, the same options apply to outgoing mail.

Whoops, not 'ttl', but 'tls'.

I'd recommend setting that to "ssl" - this should provide the best security including protection from some man in the middle attacks. TLS is also fine, but it should be coupled with an option that requires it for the connection. You should not need to select either of the "accept all keys" variants since all of our public servers use know certificate providers.

You can call Sonic support (1-888-766-4233 8am-10pm 7 days a week) and have someone help walk you through configuring the email client on your Android phone if you have any problems!
