New service - connect phone line to phone box

Hello,

I recently got my installation box. Also, AT&T came out and installed a new phone box to the outside of my house.

There are now phone jacks in my house. There was one - however, when I unscrewed it, I discovered there was no phone line attached to it.

So...on my own!

I called Sonic and unfortunately there's about a 2-week wait for their techs to come by.

The Sonic tech helped me confirm yesterday that I indeed have a phone line - by touching the two wires in the phone box to the "test" phone they provided - good dial tone.

I had some phone cable - I think it says C3...and although I was able to successfully get a dial tone on the temporary phone jack I made - the internet speed is way slow! Any thoughts?

Has anybody installed their phone line themselves?

Seriously, ask the Google for "inside telephone wiring guides" and you will get a wealth of information. Just make sure you use twisted pair, preferably CAT-5 wiring. One or more of the links will explain that.
