Faxes sent, recipient showed failed transimission

Sent 3 faxes today, recipients fax line rang, but fax transmission failed. They called me because they thought their fax was failing. I was watching the status of the faxes as it was trying, but they kept failing and retrying, etc. Is there something that I did wrong?
