Noise from modem ZTE ZXDSL 831 series

My modem transformer (converter plug thingy) makes a noise. It sounds like a very quiet clave sound - tick tick tick tick, etc. When I unplugged it the noise stopped. Anyone know why? Modem works fine.

Modem purchased from Sonic.

PS: a clave is a hand-held percussion instrument - originated in Mexico or beyond, I think.

That power supply unit is solid state, no moving parts, and shouldn't make a sound at all. I'll take this to private messages if you don't mind.

Noise was not from my ZTE power supply, even though it seemed so. It was from my Radio Shack surge protector, 7-10 years old. It has a "horn." It just got old, I think. Thanks to Sonic for sending another modem power supply. Now I have a backup.
