In the mail spool directory for my account is an empty file named ".uidvalidity" that causes my iPhone to believe that there is a folder under INBOX with the name "uidvalidity". Is that file supposed to be there? If not, I may have accidentally caused it to be created by some errors in my .procmailrc as I was trying to get my mail setup configured as I want. I don't remember that fake folder appearing on the iPhone when I first entered the sonic.net account.

I think these files are created by Pine when it accesses the mailspool. Dovecot doesn't expect these files to be there and as a performance optimization doesn't check to make sure that it is really a mail folder before returning it to the client.

Short answer, rm them. Long answer, try mutt. ;)

Thanks, I did run Pine, so that is the likely answer. I have rm'd.
