setting up a backup dns server

I'm working on setting up a backup dns server. The intent is to limit the effects of a ddns attack. Nothing against the sonic.net servers they are fine. Its just us being proactive and taking precautions.
The backup dns server company needs a AXFR to get the zone info. Is this something that will just work or do I have to do something on the sonic.net account to enable it?
