Mimicking the Deployment Environment At Home

One of my hobbies is web design. I want my development environment to be a close match for the Sonic.net server. Therefore, I am using XAMPP 5.5.37 instead of XAMPP 7.1.6.
I am currently using XAMPP for Windows. My next computer will be a dual-boot Windows/Linux system. In the past, I have used the Ubuntu version of Linux. Is this a close match for the version of Linux used on the Sonic.net server? If not, what version of Linux does Sonic.net recommend for mimicking their deployment environment at home?
