So I'm in the city of Santa Clara, and have been a sonic customer for a long time (15+ years).
However, best sonic can offer me right now is fusion X2 (which I have), giving me about 20 mbs/sec for $80/month (I provide my own modem)
For whatever reason, AT&T has not built out fiber in much of the city. And best I can tell, sonic has not even started.
20 mbs/sec may have been good enough at one time, but with more and more stuff being delivered digitally, it is not quite keeping up. It is fairly annoying to start up one of the games I play to find it has an update that will take an 1+ hours to download (guess I'm not playing that tonight)
So looking at comcast, I can get there 'up to 250 mbps' server for $80/month with no agreement. Knock $20 ($60/month) if I commit to a year, which would seem likely. Or $90/month gets be 1000 mbps service with 2 year commitment. Now those are without taxes and fees, so probably maybe another $10/month for those. Or I could go cheaper with 150 mbs service for $65/month.
I certainly lose some features with sonic: voice line (I don't use the phone so much that I put a lot of worth on that), static IP, ability to run services on my home system (don't do that much anymore), and sonic's excellent customer support and privacy.
Counterpoint is I get 10x the speed for about the same price. So like much in life, one ends up balancing multiple factors.
Is there anything I'm overlooking here?

Checking out the account location it looks like the best we can offer is the 20mbps at this time.

We do not have any confirmed locations for fiber in the area so sadly it might be some time before we can branch into the location( this changes a lot so timing can vary )

It just depends on what works best for you. There are for sure some pros and cons to switch and to not.

If you do consider switching for higher speeds you are always welcome to come back once we have better options.

just a data point - I had Sonic fiber installed in late May in Santa Clara (near Lawrence and El Camino). Like you, I've been a Sonic customer for 15+ years, patiently waiting for the availability.....so all is not lost. And, by the way, very very pleased with the service...

I asked the guy in the ATT truck working the 95050 neighborhood regarding fiber and he said ATT is in the process of hooking up fiber (nodes?) in the area. Connections should take another month or so (Jul 2019 as of this post.)

Here's to hoping.

The check availability tool in member services now shows options for att fiber resold by sonic for my area of 95050.

Lowest price is $50 for the 50mbps service.

Can anyone from Sonic give me a ballpark total cost for this tier? (95050 area.) Also, with this resold uverse, can I expect 50mbps or is it just a tiny portion of that like what I have with dsl right now. thanks.

@ontheedge If you send me a private message with a good contact email, I'd be more than happy to talk about what services you can get, pricing, etc. Alternatively, our Sales team can also be reached at 1-888-766-4233. :)

Just had att at my place to install their fiber line. This is the sonic resold uverse with the 50mbps speed for about $70 which includes the att modem rental fee. Additional 20 will get you the 100 speed I think. Contract is for one year.
Installation was fairly quick since the technician only had to pull the line from the pole to the side of the house to install the new box for the fiber line. Speed up and down is 50/50 so the kids are happy to be done with the old 4mbps/800kbps fusion dsl line.

Here’s to hoping sonic fiber will get to Santa Clara 95050 soon.

Comcast is currently running cable on the pole behind my house! Los Padres and Homestead!
The guys said they are doing the backyard pole runs this week and street work next week, so expected it would be available around the start of the new year.

YES, FINALLY!

Thank you! To my knowledge, I never received a notification that this was available. I just placed an order for it. I was tempted to go to another small ISP provider but now I can stick with Sonic. Not pure Sonic fiber but over AT&T. So basically the same as DSL over AT&T but with Sonic support and ethics and 10x faster speeds for about the same price and likely an updated modem with 5ghz

Oh holy crap, this is amazing. I am close to the same area (Westwood), and have been waiting for something faster for a while now. Hopefully this makes its way down another couple of blocks to the other side of Saratoga....*fingers crossed*!!!
