I know that this is a really old-school request, but please update the version of lynx running on bolt. The version running now is

Lynx Version 2.8.5rel.1 (04 Feb 2004)
libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, OpenSSL 0.9.6b
Built on linux-gnu Nov 2 2005 14:18:58

Even my old-ish system at work has a more recent build:

Lynx Version 2.8.8dev.9 (12 Jun 2011)
libwww-FM 2.14, SSL-MM 1.4.1, GNUTLS 2.12.14, ncurses 5.9.20110404(wide)
Built on linux-gnu Nov 19 2012 15:53:38

At least this version can be used with duckduckgo.com.

I realize that this may not be simple given that RHL 7.3 was released in 2002 (15 years!) ago.

Also, are there any plans to update bolt to a more recent release?

Thanks,

Technical support was not able to help. Do any of the admins from sonic monitor this group?

There are many views of this post but no responses. Maybe I am the last lynx user at sonic.

We're just finishing up internal testing of a new shell server - among the (many) updated programs are Lynx 2.8.8dev.15 (18 Nov 2012) and ELinks 0.12pre6 (10 Jun 2014). I've confirmed https://www.duckduckgo.com fully functions in both.

How does CentOS 7 64-bit sound? :D
I'm a proud employee of Sonic.net! :-)

That sounds excellent! Bolt is overdue of an overhaul.

Thanks!

@coad, no you're not alone. I'm a sonic.net shell user as well since March of 2001. I was so worried, that like Netcom, JPS, and others, that shell access would be no more. But sonic has kept the shell running. Thank goodness. Kelsey Cummings @sonic was so reassuring then.

I make use of Lynx in plain text (for security reasons) and have found it really annoying that the degree of shell maintenance and support just progressively degrading.

I've currently got a ticket with sonic.net because of a shell related problem that is an utter major disaster. UGH

I was wondering what was happening with the upgrade too. Given the fires in SR and other parts of Sonoma I'm holding off pushing for this for a while and am not expecting much until December. I would be happy to help beta-test the new shell machine. Hey Sonic, I use the shell services every day from a couple of different locations. I'm here to help.

Edit: We're not _quite_ ready for a public beta, but watch for info in the labs forum!

Thanks for the update, Scott!
And while I'm here, I'm happy to report that my ticket (about shell service) has been resolved.
