The customer can't argue that your staff does not need additional compensation, but you should also keep the customers happy because without them, you wouldn't be able to have or pay any staff. It doesn't make sense to raise the customer's rates to spend more on marketing. Your customers provide the best marketing with what they tell friends and associates about your service. An idea to keep marketing costs low and customers happy would be to give customers a discount when they refer a friend or neighbor to the service. Does it make sense to expand your fiber optics infrastructure, if most people don't need it? Sonic has been very good with customer service. Hopefully they will continue to listen to their customers and think of solutions to retain customers.
I don't think many of our customers would agree that they don't need fiber. Faster service is the primary ask from our membership today, and without continued build toward reaching you all with fiber, I can't imagine we'd be in business in three to five years.

When I first pre-signed with Sonic, I asked the nice person on the phone what MY address service would cost with all fees and taxes. They gave an answer that was within pennies. :D

New fees and taxes rates are levied every election. Sonic is just caught in the middle, collecting those.
When I upgraded to X2, their numbers were just as good

FWIW 1/3 of my old AT&T bill was fees and taxes  and they frequently changed

I'm disappointed. Sonic T1 fiber service is outstanding, however the company is guilty of false advertising. The trucks all say, "from $40/month." My most recent bill included the $40 + fees for my internet service, and then $22.50 in cost and fees for phone service that I never requested, and have never even activated. Obviously, they are not able to live up to the offer they are making, and have resorted to this weird phone service scam. It bugs me. Is there a more legit game in town now?

I posted this on a topic below a few days ago. My issue is having to have a landline when I only need internet service. I don't and won't be using the telephone service. The phone service account for taxes amounting to 20% of my bill. Again, I'm all for paying my taxes but hate to pay them for a service I don't want or use.

It seems to me Sonic is charging a fair price. But those tax $$ aren't going to Sonic. And it would be so simple to eliminate them for customers who don't want or need a landline.

Yes, why did our bills all go up $10 this month? It wasn’t the end of a promotion or anything; is this going to be a yearly occurrence now just like Comcast.?

I suspect the Landline + Fees and Taxes are required by the Tariff rules slid in by the big telcos.
Think about it. If you have Internet, then you could bypass the voice fees. A few years back, Palo Alto went after Cell providers for the local 6% Utilty Users Tax (and they collected...at least for a while IIRC)

No, this was a one-time price increase for all services. Sonic has not raised its prices at all in many years. We also offer a variety of methods for our customers to save money. For low-income customers, we participate in the Affordable Connectivity Program which can subsidize $30 per month of your monthly bill. You can find more information about ACP at https://www.sonic.com/affordable-connectivity-program. You can also get a $30 credit when you refer a family member or friend to Sonic. Info on our referral program is available at https://www.sonic.com/referrals.
