While surfing the internet, a pop up message said that my IP address was chosen to complete a Sonic satisfaction survey. I completed the survey and was offered a choice of various free prizes. So I picked the watch and paid $6.99 for shipping. The watch arrived the next day. Three weeks later, I noticed an unauthorized charge of $99.98 on my credit card from Factory Release. With the help of Citibank, a 3-way call was placed to Factory Release. The Rep. offered me a 50% refund and I can keep the watch. I refused his offer and was promised a full refund within 24 hours.
I am sorry that happened to you.
It wasn't a Sonic specific scam but rather it could tell your IP address was issued by Sonic and automatically updated the popup to reflect whatever ISP you were using.
If you were using Comcast it would pretend to be an Comcast survey.
