Look at the "From:": address. Sonic would never send from an paulbunyan.net address. Dead giveaway.

That was obvious even to me, but it seemed weird for that very reason. I guess I'm used to phishing that is more sophisticated. I kept wondering if I was missing something. I guess not.

Perhaps they are doing their first phish.

Let's hope they don't get any better at it.
I am not looking forward to the day when my phishdar isn't up to the job.

Hello Susan! Yes, virtualmike is correct about the sender's address. Always check the "from" and "to" address. Any e-mails from Sonic will end with @sonic.com or @sonic.net. Also, the "to" address should be your e-mail address only. If you see any additional names or "undisclosed recipients" that is also a giveaway. If in doubt, you can always forward the e-mail to support@sonic.com or call our Technical Support team at (855)394-0100.

There's a spam every day from "Sonic" telling me I've gone over my disk usage. The From: address is a giveaway, but isn't there someway Sonic itself could be trapping these and diverting to Graymail?

While the from address may be obvious, the Sonic Spam assassin may not be catching the messages you mentioned for other reasons.

I would recommend finding who the sender is and navigating to https://members.sonic.net/ and following the steps below.

1. Hover over the email tab on the left-hand side
2. Hover over spam filtering
3. Hover over Welcomelists/Blocklists
4. Click more lists
5. Scroll down to "Add Blocklist To"
6. Add the sender's email address to that area

Hopefully, this helps. if you have more questions regarding spam configuration, Sonic support can be reached 7 days a week by calling (707)-547-3400 between 8 am and 10 pm.
