Web mail intermittently down or unreachable

Started happening Friday (Sep 1), happening right now (Saturday Sep 3 at 7:43) again. Host webmail.sonic.net does not react to pings, does not serve web requests, while the rests of sonic's infrastructure (like sh.sonic.net or www.sonic.net and this forum) is up. During the time, normal email (receiving via IMAP, sending via SMTP) works.

Friday, it resolved itself within half hour or so (not sure when it started).

Nothing visible on the status message on sh.sonic.net.

... And it's BAAAAAACK. Outage was at least 6 minutes, perhaps a little longer.

And to be cleared: I'm not upset, more amused.

On Friday we had an automated configuration problem that caused the cluster to go into an error state, which we resolved as soon as we identified the problem. On Saturday we identified some abuse of the webmail cluster at the time you posted and firewalled off the offending IP that was causing problems.

Sorry for any problems you've experienced with webmail recently. We upgraded both the hardware and the software/OS of the system recently, so please keep us informed of any problems you see. We're actively watching it for any instability we may have introduced during this work, but how customers experience the system is ultimately the most important indicator we have.
