I have been a member of Sonic since nearly the beginning and the cost has risen during the years. I now am told I am required to keep my landline phone on my line (thought I would be able to take it off) when I retired and didn't need it anymore.

I am very pleased with the customer service at Sonic. Some of the best out there of any customer service.

I retired at the end of last month and had thought I could take the $30 phone charges off. I was budgeting for that. My internet service and phone (required to do) is over $70 a month. I am told the only thing to do is buy equipment to save $10 a month, but if I require services with my own equipment, might lose them.

Is the above accurate information?

I am wondering if you ever considered a senior discount or a discount based on amount of income. I am sure there are others in a similar situation.

Thank you.

At this point in time, we only offer Fusion Internet + Phone on 1gb Fiber circuits. When we first started providing service, this was the only way that we could due to the available infrastructure and our system was built around it. This service offering also makes us a telco provider which allows us to access and provide service over the infrastructure that we currently do.

Once the infrastructure has been upgraded and we can offer our 1gb Fiber customers the ability to upgrade to a 10gb circuit the de-bundling you are asking for could be achieved.

At this point in time, we do not offer any discounts or re-occurring promotional discounts for users. We currently provide our service at the lowest cost that we can afford to and providing anything lower for any extended period would not be feasible for us. As we expand our Fiber infrastructure, we are slowly eliminating that underlying infrastructure cost and customer loyalty discounts, discounts for the elderly, etc. are something that are on our radar and something we may be able to implement in the future. Right now, that's not an option, but hopefully we can change that in the near future.

If you qualify you can apply for the ACP (Affordable Connectivity Program) which you can learn more about here https://www.affordableconnectivity.gov/ and once you have applied and been approved, you can get this applied to your Sonic account for a monthly benefit. Once you have done so just log in to https://members.sonic.net/ and click on the Affordable Connectivity Program link at the center of the page and enter the eligibility information.

If you rent the equipment, sonic will take care of ensuring the devices they rent you are functioning.
That means remotely connecting to it to diagnose or come to your location.
If you prefer to provide your own equipment (for DSL: modem and router, for fiber, the ONT is loaned, you would provide your router) sonic cannot connect to it to diagnose and will charge you if they need to come and the issue is on your device or your home wiring.
Many people prefer the peace of mind of renting. In case of problem sonic may ship you a replacement device before you send back the defective one. Other people prefer to use their own equipment and save the rental fee.
Theoretically you are on your own but in the past sonic has proven to try and be helpful in diagnosing issues though as they don't know support your device it is more challenging.

Yes, there is an income based discount available now! And about 1/3rd of California households qualify, but only about 3% of Sonic customers are participating. We have sent multiple emails to try to raise awareness, but I’d guess many who could get this discount have not activated it.
