What's the point of "Spam numbers to block"?

I get a lot of junk phone calls, despite registering at https://donotcall.gov/
There's a very popular thread here for "spam numbers to block".

Yet all the calls I get are spoofed numbers, presumably in use by innocent parties. What good would blocking them do?
Can Sonic block in other ways, such as based on volume, or hangup time. Or maybe add a *72 to report a spam number (which then might be blocked from other Sonic.net customers for an hour or two after)?

Lately I have received many bogus calls using same area code and first 3 digits are same... don't know how to block these type of spam calls.

Wouldn't it be (relatively) simple for Sonic to offer a feature such as intercepting incoming calls with "press 1 to connect" or some such. This would effectively block robocallers and address the growing neighbor spoofing we're all seeing.
