If I can keep my phone number, why do I have to chose a temp

We currently have phone and Internet with Att and would like to switch to Sonic, not sure which package yet. When I start the process I am asked to pick a temp phone number. The theory is that when switching from att there is no need for a temp number, why am I asked to pick one or what am I doing wrong? We don't care for a temp number because nobody knows about it nor we plan to give out a temp number, so having a temp number is the same thing as not having a phone. So if we have to deal with not having our usual number for X days we may not be able to make the switch. Thanks

Antonio

It seems probable that you have uVerse from ATT which is not a traditional POTS line. The temporary number can be replaced with your existing uVerse number after installation is complete. There is no charge for this transition and once the process is begun the change can complete within 1-2 weeks. In that interim you would simply forward your existing ATT number to the temporary Sonic assigned number. Once the change over is complete the temporary number is taken back by Sonic as your ATT number is moved to Sonic. There is no down time typically and no interruption of service whatsoever, as well as no need to tell anyone the temporary number.

If I switch from Xfinity Comcast can I keep my number? What will the process involve? Also, where can I find long distance rate to Hong Kong & Taiwan?

You should be able to keep your number, similar to how cdkeen explains above. Here are the international calling rates:

Yes. Call Sonic.net support (707-547-3400) and they will walk you through the process; basically Sonic.net will send an electronic request to your phone provider once your Sonic line is active that will initiate the transfer of the number for you.

Yes. Once service is installed, call Sonic technical support at 707-522-1000 and request the number port. Typically the number must remain active with the other provider during this process. The porting process can take between 1-2 weeks so during that time you would simply forward your existing number to the temporary Sonic assigned number.

To see what the potential rate for a long distance call would be, search the number here -
