Sometimes I forget all the great features fusion lines have... I was just wanting to call 411 the other day on one, but couldn't remember if it was free or not... I'll try to remember that it is in the future, even though I think I used it in the past.

1-800-FREE411 has some ads in rotation that some people might object to, for services like adult chat lines.

We better cross our fingers that the Tellme/24/7 service doesn't fold up the way that all the others have.

Please don't discontinue a service because you think no one wants it. I haven't used it for a long time either but that doesn't mean I never will. As for "just use the internet" wow that is rather ummm let's say privileged. Sometimes a computer might be in the shop, or you can be inbetween computers. And then there are power outages. I might really need a 411 service in a power outage (no, I don't have a smartphone and sometimes my regular cell doesn't work or it does but I don't have the right number in there).

Can you include a recorded announcement when someone dials 411 giving the cost? Then if the person hangs up, there's no charge? It would be worth an extra wait for this, not just for the message but for the time it takes to transfer the call.

Cyndi,

We found another service, thanks to suggestions from customers. So, no near term issue.

If we do end up with no free options and we see customer interest in paid 411, we like the idea of a "press one to confirm payment of seventy five cents for directory service and continue, or hang up to avoid this fee."

After a few $10 calls to 411 years ago, I never used it again.
But that said looking up phone numbers on the net these days is a chancy business, descending into a pit of flashing banner ads and chancy websites. Who's out of date database are you going to trust?

Thus:
How has the collection of white pages data evolved? For example is Sonic required to share it's database of listed numbers, and how frequently does each provider update?
Would sonic get a kickback from a directory provider, to become the "official" online directory for sonic.net customers?

With the ability to opt-out.

Whitepages inclusion practices here are that newly assigned numbers for residential Fusion customers are unlisted, and we do not offer an option to list them.

Ported-in numbers remain listed as they were prior to the porting, and we don't have a method in place to make any changes to this either.

Interesting. That's of course part of the reason 411 is not so useful any more: lack of access to the data needed on both the white and yellow pages side. Try asking 411 for the nearest (insert chain store here) and you'll probably get no more than the corporate headquarters.
