411

Since the launch of our Fusion telephone service, we've routed 411 toward free directory services in order to avoid the typical 411 directory lookup fee for our customers. Initial we used Google's GOOG-411, and then when it was discontinued, we routed to Microsoft's BING-411. They discontinued this service and we switched to JustDial, which was the last free directory service we are aware of.

With their discontinuation of the various free services, we've got two options: simply stop offering 411 at all, or offer it for a fee. We could get a service in place at roughly $0.75 per call (compare to AT&T at $1.89, and Verizon at $1.50). But, we hate the idea of a per-call fee on Fusion, so we've routed 411 to a message which suggests using the Internet to look up the needed telephone number.

Over the last three months, Fusion customers have called 411 just 2,000 times per month, so it's not a frequently used service.

We are interested in feedback from customers. Would you prefer that 411 be available, even if there is a per-call fee? Or, do you prefer not to have the risk of a fee if someone dials 411?

I just tried the current number of
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tellme_Networks
and that worked.
(I have never used 411 on a fusion line, just something I found)

Thanks for the update, but it not an essential feature for me and not worth an additional fee.

I haven't used 411 in over a decade. I suppose it would be nice to have 411 available, but I don't want any additional charges on my bill if I don't use it.

ditto saronian. not really worth an additional fee, especially with a lead like aw provides for TellMe. Thanks for the update and the chance to respond!

+1 for discontinuing service. I don't want a charge after accidentally dialing 411, or if my kids dial 411.

I also have not used 411 in decades. Too many folk have unlisted numbers, making use a hit or miss situation. Mostly MISS.

Having a Access code or a 976 number for those that do need this service would not be bad, but NOT for a monthly fee.

Given that all Fusion customers should have Internet access, please use the Internet for looking up phone numbers instead.

Obviously it would be useful to see what portion of customers actually use the 411 service. Presumably it's very small.
