How to use "bridge mode" properly?

I used to have a 10-year old DSL modem, now got that Pace 5268AC. I want it to be a modem-only, so the tech support turned on the "bridge mode," but it's currently not working.

My router is on DD-WRT. What kind of setting should I have? Does anyone have experience?

On my 10-year old modem, DD-WRT's Connection Type if DHCP. Should it be different for this?

Thanks in advance.

you probably want a cascaded router vs bridge mode. But ... why not just use the wifi/router in the modem. Unless there's a compelling reason to use the other one.
