kind sonic folk -

any idea when/if you will support native ipv6 allocations (ie non-tunnel) for fusion customers?

In my day job i'm a network engineer at a large internet firm so i realize how far behind networking vendors are on really supporting ipv6 in their gear, but since sonic.net are always on the cutting edge I'm hoping they support it soon.

it would be nice to have it working by the upcoming ipv6 week in june.

thx! as always you guys rock

It's not something we plan to roll out soon, sorry. We will be ready when it's a "must do", but we won't be an early adopter for this capability. Note though that we do today offer IPv6, via 6in4 tunnels, and we've been supporting this capability for many years. Details here: http://sonic.net/features/ipv6/

Also, you can cast your vote for native v6 support - you're not the only one asking for it, so it's good to hear how much of a priority it is for customers. Vote here: http://sonicnet.uservoice.com/forums/13 ... ative-ipv6

Hi Dane,

I'm wondering what you're thoughts are on Comcast's recently announced plans to roll out IPv6/IPv4 dual stack configurations to every customer? If I'm reading this right, they seem to be stating their intention to (a) never force IPv4 ISP-NAT on their customers, and (b) initially only allocating a single IPv6 /128 address?

Do you see this as a game changer for the adoption of IPv6?

As long as v4 addresses are available, and there are no v6-only resources, I don't expect we will see much use of v6, not many service providers doing wide deployment. IPv6 will not be a rapid transition.

There actually is a very good v6 only resource now, which is free binary usenet servers. Good as a replacement when Sonic's go away! They work fine with the tunnel you provide though.
