Upgrading emacs on sh.sonic.net

Hi,
I was redirected here by the Sonic Support Team regarding my upgrade request of the emacs program on sh.sonic.net.
Its version is 24.3.1 whereas the latest and greatest emacs' version is at 27.0.
Could you possibly take a look at this if possible? Thanks.

I'll take a look.
Note that we try to stick with the packages found in the distribution so that we aren't building a lot of software. That way, it is more likely to stay up to date as we move forward.

You're right in regards to staying close to the vanilla distribution. Perhaps, we can stash this newer emacs version in /usr/local/bin so that it won't get in the way of your upgrading.
